***Please note the tournament is in the Elementary gym (not high
school). Simply continue West on Sunset past the high school until you get to
the elementary lot” USCF Rated. Individual Swiss format with 5 rounds in 4 divisions. Open to students in grades K-8.
Players may play up, but only qualify (see below) for the division that they participate in. Junior High (K-8) Elementary (K-6) Primary (K-3) Kindergarten/1st Grade (K-1) $25 online via Events4Chess.com by Friday, March 6, at 6:00 pm. ($30 thereafter.) **Late registration may receive a 1⁄2 point bye for round 1 and be paired for round 2** USCF Annual Membership may be purchased online at the USCF website. Bring chess clocks and sets, none provided. Check-in is not required. Please arrive by 8:15 am to inform us of players that will not attend.
Pairings are posted at 8:45 am. Announcements start at 8:55 am and play begins at 9:00 am!
Players should be seated as soon as the pairings are posted. Time Control: Game in 40 minutes (per player) with a 5 second delay.
Awards: Junior High Trophies: 1st - 10th Individual; 1st - 4th Team Elementary Trophies: 1st - 15th Individual; 1st - 6th Team Primary Trophies: 1st - 15th Individual; 1st - 6th Team K-1 Trophies: 1st - 10th Individual; 1st - 4th Team Medallions awarded to players scoring 3.0 or more points that do not win an Individual Trophy. Medals to all K-1 players not receiving a trophy. Participation Certificate to all. Team scores consist of only the top 4 scores in the division.

Qualifications: To play in the Arizona Scholastic State Chess Championships ("State") on May 2-3, 2020, a player must qualify at a Regional Qualifier. Players no longer qualify slots – you must participate in a qualifier to play at State. Teams are comprised of only players who qualify. Players must qualify in the section in which they will compete at the State Championships. Players qualify for K-1 Championship section by playing at least 4 rounds OR score 3 points. For the Championship sections in Primary K-3, Elementary K-6 (or K-5), and Junior High K-8, players must score at least 3 points at a qualifier. High School Grades 9-12 do not have to qualify. Players qualify for any “under section” for which they are eligible by participating in at least one qualifier. A player may qualify in more than one section, provided they are grade eligible for such section. Players may play in multiple qualifiers. See attached flyer under 'Files'. |
