Schedule: Wed: 1pm, 7pm; Thu: 1 pm, 7 pm; Sat: 1 pm, 7pm; Sun: 1 pm. A closing ceremony will be held Sunday at 7 pm.
Time Control: Rounds 1-6: G/45 d/10. Round 7: G/90 d/10.
Byes: Half (1/2) point bye requests (2 maximum) are available for all rounds.
Zero (0) point bye requests are available for all rounds.
Byes must be requested prior to the start of round 2.

The 2022 North American Chess Cup for Youth with Disabilities 

ChessAbilities Inc., a non-profit organization together with Chess.com and ChessKid.com present the first annual North American Chess Cup for Youth with Disabilities. This event will be held at the Embassy Suites Denver Tech Center North at 7525 East Hampden Ave. Denver, CO 80231. The tournament will begin on Tuesday June 21st and run through Sunday June 26th of 2022.

 

This unique chess competition will provide children and young adults with disabilities the opportunity to compete against their peers in divisions according to their age, grade, and chess rating.  Each competitor will have access to one-on-one chess instruction as well as game analysis with local expert and master level Colorado chess players. 

This tournament is open to any youth chess player under the age of 21 living in Mexico, Canada, or the US. The player must show proof of their disability (letter from a doctor or other medical professional outlining the details of their disability). This will be a USCF rated chess tournament and will follow all USCF rules and regulations. 

For family members, there will be workshops on the rules and regulations of live over-the-board chess tournaments as well as best practices for at-home chess study and tactical training. On Friday June 24th there will be a field trip to The Denver Museum of Nature and Science followed by a pizza party with live entertainment provided by local artists with disabilities!  

There will be gift bags for all the players as well as trophies for each of the sections. College Scholarship monies will also be available.

 

Main Details

  • Competitors will be grouped in the following sections based on age/grade and Chess.com/Chesskid.com chess rating.
  • The sections will be:

    K-5 (Kindergarten through 5th grade)

    6-8 (grades 6th through 8th grades)

    9-12 (grades 9th through 12th grade)

    Open section (open to all ages and grades, these participants will be the highest rated and most seasoned chess players)

  • The entry fee for this tournament is $60.00. The final deadline to enter will be June 7, 2022.
  • There is no onsite registration.
  • The tournament is seven rounds. The time control for rounds 1-6 is G/45;d/10. The time control for round 7 is G/90;d/10.

The purpose of this tournament is to provide a unique and safe environment for youth with disabilities under the age of 21, to compete in an over-the-board chess competition. The further purpose of this event is to show these players how to begin competing in their home country or state in regular over-the-board chess tournaments and to provide information to the parents about where and how these tournaments are held and whom to contact about signing up!
