Notes/Terms: | NSCF Level 4: Understanding Pawn Structures from Philidor to Nakamura & Carlsen (10 weeks) Instructor: FM Sunil Weeramantry Students who have not completed Level 3 are required to pass a placement test or have instructor permission prior to starting this series of classes. In this course, students will study more complex pawn structures and examine the concept of tension. Students will learn whether to maintain or release tension. Topics include pawn majorities, the outside passed pawn, the minority attack, hanging pawns, and the Bayonet Attack. It is expected that students completing this class will better understand the relationship between pawns and pieces and be able to formulate and execute long-term strategic plans. Upon completion, students’ chess knowledge should correspond to a US Chess over-the-board rating of 1400+. PLEASE NOTE: This is a series of classes. We will not accept students for a single class or on a pro-rata basis. Any questions, please contact the office by email or by calling: (914) 683-5322. |
