Quick: 5 Rounds SS G/10 d3, Rd 1 starts at 10 AM (US Chess rated)

Blitz: 5 double Rounds SS G/3 d2, Rd 1 starts at 1:30 PM (US Chess rated)

Bullet: 5 double Rounds SS G/1 d2, Rd 1 starts at 4:30 PM (not rated)

All subsequent rounds ASAP

No ½ point byes permitted, but players may select not to participate in any of the three events.

Prizes: $300-$200-$100 to Top 3 per event; $300 bonus to overall Champion; $100 to overall Top Under 1800, Under 1200, Senior (50+) and Female, not otherwise cash prize placing. 

Trophy to Top Connecticut player overall as Connecticut Speed Champion; Trophy to Top Collegiate, Upper (grades 6-12) and Lower (grades pre-5) School players per event; Trophy to Top 3 Collegiate, Upper and Lower School players overall; Trophy to Top Collegiate, Upper and Lower School Teams overall; Highest finishing Connecticut players and teams recognized as State Champions.

Prizes based on final placement on USCF tie breaks, NOT USCF distribution rules. Overall placement based on combined placement in all three events. Non-participating players in any event will be considered tied for last place. Cash prizes distributed via check by mail (PayPal distribution may be requested subject to PayPal fees), also see Note [4] tax requirements below. 

Entry Fee: $80 by February 1; $90 by February 6; $100 by 8p on February 10. Online registration, only. 

NO on-site registration. On-site changes: $20 (cash exact change only).

CSCA Member Organization DISCOUNT: CSCA Member Organizations will receive instructions to apply $20 membership discount to their students. Schools may apply for Member Organization status at any time by email to chess.CSCA@gmail.com. 

GMs and IMs: Entry fee is waived for GMs and IMs, if registering by February 1. Deducted from prize thereafter. Email events.CSCA@gmail.com to register. 

Out-of-state: Out-of-state players (see Note [1] below) are welcome and prize eligible, except State titles. 

Notes: THIS NONPROFIT EVENT IS ORGANIZED AND SPONSORED BY THE CONNECTICUT STATE CHESS ASSOCIATION AND EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY CHESS CLUB AND HOSTED BY EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY. ALL PROCEEDS BENEFIT THE CONNECTICUT CHESS COMMUNITY. This is an official US Chess recognized state championship tournament event to determine 2023 Connecticut Speed Chess Champions. 

[1] Connecticut player. For the purpose of these Championships, a “Connecticut player” is (a) any player whose state is designated Connecticut (“CT”) with U.S. Chess, or (b) any player whose state is not designated “CT” with U.S. Chess, but who (i) resides or (ii) attends school in the state of Connecticut. Event entrants pursuant to section (b) will provide proof of eligibility. 

[2] COVID-19 Protocols Apply. All applicable Eastern Connecticut State University COVID-19 Protocols apply. 

ALL PARTICIPANTS: Please note the starting time of the different events. Please arrive early and check the Advanced Entry List to confirm registration. ECSU Student Center Food Court will be open and available during the event. 

[3] Rating Supplement. February 2023 USCF Rating Suppl. used for section entry, pairings and prizes. 

[4] Tax requirements. Players receiving total payments of $600 or more from the CSCA in 2023 must submit a W-9 to the CSCA at events.CSCA@gmail.com in advance of receiving prize.

[6] Refunds/Cancellation Policy: To withdraw registration or request a refund, email your request to events.CSCA@gmail.com no later than February 9 at 11:59 PM. Refund requests not received by email or received after the above deadline, will not be honored. Refunds are subject to $15 administrative fee.
