Schedule: Building opens at 12:30pm. 4 Rounds. Round 1 at 1:00pm. Remaining games ASAP. Estimated completion no later than 5:00pm. Novice and Beginner sections may finish sooner.
Time Control: G/25; d5 (25 minutes per player with a 5 second delay per move)
Byes: Half (1/2) point bye requests (1 maximum) are available for round 1 only.
Zero (0) point bye requests are available for rounds: 2, 3, 4.

Section Descriptions

Championship & Intermediate: These sections are designed for experienced tournament players.  The intermediate section is open to players rated up to 800 USCF.  Current US Chess Federation memberships are required for participation in the Championship and Intermediate sections.  Join/renew at uschess.org.  Participants in grades 2-12 will be expected to write their moves.  Notation sheets and pencils will be provided.  

Beginner & Novice: These sections are designed for players that are relatively new to tournament chess.  First timers welcome!  Notation is not required and rounds will likely finish faster than the other sections.  Players with existing USCF ratings over 300 may not play in these sections.

Prizes

Championship: Trophies to 1st - 3rd place 
Intermediate: Trophies to 1st - 5th place
Beginner: Trophies to 1st - 5th place
Novice: Trophies to 1st - 3rd place overall.  Additional trophies awarded to the top kindergartener, 1st, and 2nd graders not otherwise placing.  

Team Prizes: 
Trophies to 1st-6th place elementary schools, 1st-2nd middle schools and 1st place high school

*Teams are comprised of at least two players from the same school among all of the sections combined.  Team scores are the combined scores of the four highest scoring players from the same school.  

Notes

  • All students in grades K-8 must have an adult supervisor present at all times.  
  • Medals awarded for all non-placing participants in the Novice section.  
  • Prizes will be awarded as soon as possible upon the completion of each section's fourth round.  The tournament will be completed no later than 5:00pm.
  • Current USCF official published ratings used for rated sections.  
  • Rated section players in grades 2-12 are required to write notation.
  • One 1/2 point bye available for round 1 only.  Must request by the end of registration.  
  • Location: The tournament is hosted by Schoolhouse Academy in Wilton, CT.  Use the main entrance at the front of the building for access.  
  • Ample parking is available in the lot directly behind the neighboring Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Cancellation Policy

Notifications received by 8:00pm on the day prior to the event will receive a refund ($10 processing fee) or a full credit to a future event.  No refunds for cancellations after 8:00pm.  

Photos

By registering for this event, you give permission for images of your child, captured during participation in RedBandit Chess LLC (RBC) programs and events through video, photo and digital camera, to be used solely for the purposes of RBC promotional material and publications, and waive any rights of compensation or ownership thereto.  RBC will never publish photos with names without permission.  Please send a request via email if you prefer no photos of your child to be taken.
