| Notes/Terms: | Join us for our exclusive chess retreat for adults aged 21+ in beautiful rural Danby, Vermont! Hosted at two neighboring rental homes, the long weekend blends vacation with chess. The retreat will feature daily instruction by National Master Ian Harris (and possible guest instructor), game play with analysis, various optional excursions to explore the region, and other fun chess activities. Who? This retreat is designed for adults (21+) that are enthusiastic about chess and would like to spend quality time playing and studying chess in an idyllic environment. Participants of all levels are welcome! The retreat is limited to 10 residential and 6 commuters for a total of 16 participants. Schedule Wednesday, July 23rd: Arrival as early as 2:00pm followed by dinner & evening program Sample Daily Routine (Th - Sat) Sunday, July 27th: Breakfast and departure by 11:00am Accommodations/Venue The retreat will be held at two adjacent rental properties in Danby, VT. The venue is approximately 1.5 hours from Albany, NY and 3.5 hours from Boston/New York City. The houses are flanked by beautiful fields and mountains. A private indoor swimming pool with views of the mountains is available to all guests. Participants can choose between single or shared (two twin beds) rooms. Single rooms have a shared hall bathroom while private suite options have their own private bathroom. More details about the houses. A commuter option is available should residential rooms sell out or for those that prefer to stay at a nearby hotel. The closest alternative lodging options are located in and around Manchester, VT and are about a 20 minute commute. Meals are still included in this option. Excursions/Evening Programs Each full day (Th-Sat) will feature a planned optional excursion during break times. See the link to accommodations for some examples of things to do in/around the area. Participants may choose to join and explore the surrounding natural beauty, relax at home and/or swim. Evening programs will feature different chess related activities/lessons including analysis of the game of the day, simultaneous exhibition, hand & brain, blindfold match, etc. Meals Each house has a fully equipped kitchen for use at any time by guests. Breakfast staples and lunches will be available each day. Dinners will consist of catered meals and a BBQ cookout on the final night. One dinner during the week will be held out at a restaurant in nearby Manchester. All food is included with registration. Guests are also welcome to bring their own food and should bring their own alcoholic beverage of choice.
This retreat is all-inclusive. There are no extra fees for food, lodging, chess instruction or excursions. Fees vary depending on the type of room. Residential shared rooms ($1,050) feature two twin size beds. Single rooms ($1,250) offer more privacy and feature either full or queen size beds. Private suites ($1,400) feature king sized beds and your own private bathroom. Commuter options ($800) are available for those who prefer to arrange their own lodging accommodations. *Participants should bring their own alcoholic beverages of choice and need to arrange their own travel. The venue is best reached by car and is located just along the Route 7 in Danby, VT. The nearest convenient airport is Albany International (about a 1.5 hour drive). The exact address will be provided in advance to registered participants.
Full refunds will be granted for cancellations received in writing via email to iharris@redbanditchess.com by April 30th, 50% by June 30th. No refunds after June 30th. While we fully expect the retreat to take place, in the unlikely event that the retreat does not meet the minimum six participant requirement, full refunds will automatically be issued.
