Time Control: G/25, D5

Format: 5 Round Swiss in two sections (DIV I 1700+ & DIV II U1800).  Top 8 players in each section after the first three rounds by score & USCF tiebreaks join the knockout bracket to determine the top 4 prize winners.   

Prizes:

1st - 4th place in each division: $400 & trophy - $300 - $200 - $100 Additional DIV I Prizes: Top U2000 $100 Additional DIV II Prizes: Top U1400 $100, Top U1000 $100 Top Female Bonus: $100 in each Division

*Additional class prizes awarded to players not reaching the semi-finals.  

**Top female bonus prize can be earned in addition to other prizes. 


Schedule: Swiss Rounds: 10:00, 11:15, 12:30, LUNCH BREAK, 2:30, 3:45

Quarterfinals: 2:30pm, Semifinals: 3:45pm, Finals & 3rd Place Matches: 5:15pm

Elimination Bracket Details:

Top 8 players compete in the quarterfinals – finals.  Players are seeded by their standings after the first three rounds of the swiss in their respective sections.  Quarterfinals and semifinals play one G/25, D5 game followed, if needed, by an armageddon (5m v. 4m) with black receiving one minute less and draw odds.  Players eliminated in the quarter finals will rejoin the swiss tournament to play the final 5th round. Semifinal losers play 3rd place match.

Finalists & 3rd place match in each section will play two G/15; d5 rapid games, followed by armageddon tiebreaker if necessary.  First game colors determined by coin flip.

Entry:

$75 by February 28th.  $90 by 3/4.  $115 by 3/7 at 5:00pm. No on-site entries.

The tournament will take place in the Martire Business and Communications Center "Martire Center" located at Sacred Heart University.  Parking is located directly behind the building along Park Ave.  Directions

Notes:
  • Format: 5 Round Swiss System.  G/25 d5.  Rated.
  • Official March published USCF ratings used.   
  • Two 1/2 point byes available for any round.  Must request by 9am on 3/8.  Players that qualify for the quarterfinal-finals must agree to play all rounds.  
  • All sets and clocks provided!
  • Live broadcast of the top boards in each section.
  • Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. 
  • Prizes will be distributed electronically after the tournament.  
  • Advanced registration only.  Registrations closes March 7th at 5:00pm.  
  • A variety of lunch options are available on campus.  More details will be provided.  

Current US Chess Federation memberships are required for participation.  Join/renew at uschess.org.  

Cancellation Policy:

Notifications received by 8:00pm on the day prior to the event will receive a refund ($5 processing fee).  No refunds for cancellations after 8:00pm.

By registering for this event, you give permission for images of you or your child, captured during participation in RedBandit Chess LLC (RBC) programs and events through video, photo and digital camera, to be used solely for the purposes of RBC promotional material and publications, and waive any rights of compensation or ownership thereto.  RBC will never publish photos with names without permission.  Please send a request via email if you prefer no photos of your child to be taken.
